Well, it’s Revu-a-Holic Time. Also, happy New Years!!!! I had to write this review before the end of month. Why? To start the year off with fresh new places to go and see. Plus, who wants to be jinx sitting at home? When it’s something to be discovered every day. The first eatery I visited this 2025 year was Smoke House 227. When I see this business name, what comes to mind is the 1980’s show 227. In my head I hear the song “There's No Place Like Home Theme” by Jackée Harry. Back to the subject. I had a taste for barbecue due to pregnancy cravings. My friend that stays out my way referred me to this location. I must admit the barbecue was not overly seasoned which is . I give a ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ rating. Below are pros, cons, and pics Pros: Friendly and welcoming environment Cashier/Server was knowledgeable and professional Clean countertop, floors, and tables Spacious seating space Clean restrooms Theme has an outdoorsy feel and aligns w/ ambiance Menu is simple w/ just enough selection of meats, sides, and desserts Customary beverage(s) selection Decent music selection Handicap accessible Dine-in or carry-out * Pls, note I do not know if the company offers delivery and rewards services Grilling time is appropriate, and meal is served promptly Meat tastes fresh and palatable Affordable Only know of one location Traveling distance from home is 15 minutes Parking may be a hassle. The restaurant is in downtown Gadsden. Parking may be limited during lunch hours. Cons: As for the sauce, it does differentiate from other brands when it comes to sense of taste. For example, the flavor has a sweet and zesty kick. A downside is I prefer thickened sauce. Theirs is a little aqueous. Menu appearance such as the design is basic and outdated
Great place and service! We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. Our waitress was Tanay(spelling?) and she was wonderful. Our food was tasty and delicious. We all did the 2 for $20 deal (entree and two sides): pulled pork, fried whole wings, mac & cheese, dressing, candied yams, okra, fried corn, baked beans, and dirty rice! Sweet tea was also really good and fresh. We will definitely be back!
We walked in and were greeted by the staff. We dined in. We were seated immediately. The wait staff was personable and attentive. We ordered the catfish with their secret seasoning okra and sweet potato casserole and the whole wings with fried corn on the cob and fries. The food was outstanding. We did a 2 for $20 special, which is quite affordable; however, it did not include drinks. Drinks turned out to be quite pricey at $3.99 each. They were flavored lemonades and tasted really good. We did receive free refills and grabbed some to-go. They also had dessert, but we were full. We will be visiting this establishment again.
I was doing work in Gadsden for the company I work for and I looked up restaurants. Smokehouse 227 was on the list past a few chain restaurants. Well worth the trip. Best pulled pork sandwich I've had in a long time. And real southern sweet tea. Amazing staff and incredible food.

Smokehouse 227 stands as a true gem in downtown Gadsden, Alabama, delivering authentic Southern barbecue with a welcoming, outdoorsy charm. Nestled at 227 Broad Street, this eatery has built its reputation not just on the quality of its smoked meats but on an experience that feels like home—warm, hearty, and familiar.
As a food reviewer for Res Menu, my first impression centered on the perfect balance Smokehouse 227 strikes between traditional flavors and fresh execution. The menu captures the essence of Southern comfort: pulled pork that melts with smoky tenderness, whole fried wings seasoned to perfection, and sides like creamy homemade mac and cheese alongside well-roasted corn on the cob. Each dish pays homage to Southern roots without overwhelming complexity, just honest, soulful cooking.
What resonates deeply here is the food’s freshness and balance. The pulled pork, heralded by patrons as some of the best in the region, carries the right depth of smoke with a light hand on seasoning—a respectful nod to the natural flavor of the meat. The wings, crispy and perfectly fried, are another highlight, pairing effortlessly with the sweet and savory sides like candied yams and dirty rice. The sweet tea, a Southern staple, rounds out the meal with a refreshing, genuine touch that feels like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.
Beyond the food, Smokehouse 227 offers a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Reviewers praise the friendly, knowledgeable staff and the clean, spacious interior that encourages you to linger over your meal. The outdoors-inspired theme enhances a sense of comfort—making every visit feel less like dining out and more like gathering with friends and family. While the sauce leans toward a sweet and zesty profile, some may find it lighter than expected, leaving room for personal preferences in flavor intensity.
Accessibility and service further elevate the experience. The restaurant accommodates dine-in or carry-out with prompt grilling times and affordable specials such as their popular 2 for $20 deal. Although parking downtown can be tight during peak hours, the quality and authenticity of the barbecue more than compensate for the minor inconvenience.
In sum, Smokehouse 227 encapsulates what great Southern barbecue should be—honest, comforting, and made with care. Whether craving a smoky pulled pork sandwich, crispy wings, or classic sides like homemade mac and cheese and candied yams, this spot offers a satisfying journey into Southern flavors. It’s a place that invites you back, promising familiarity alongside delicious discovery with every bite.
